03/12/2011 The government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Turkish firm, Hakan Mining and Electricity Generation Industry and Trade Inc. (Hakan) to develop power generating plants in the wetlands of Nyanza and Gisagara Districts in the Southern Province.

01/12/2011 The acute cooking gas crisis in Mozambique may continue until at least mid-December, since the supplier, the South African company, Engen Petroleum Ltd, failed to honour its commitment to resume production of LPG (liquified petroleum gas)as initially planned.


26/11/2011 President Museveni has said government will dedicate one of its oil wells for electricity generation. While officiating at the Investor's Roundtable at Munyonyo on yesterday, Mr Museveni said projects such as Bujagali Hydro-electric Dam and other smaller ones would soon be brought on board for the same purpose. His announcement comes on the back of public agitation about the floundering electricity supply in the country that is currently on a 24-hour load-shedding schedule.

25/11/2011 The publicly owned electricity company, EDM, plans to provide eight thousand new connections in the northern Mozambican port of Nacala in 2012.The quality of power supply in Nacala is a matter of concern. Due to the rise in demand, the old transmission lines are becoming saturated. Some businesses have already expressed their discontent regarding the poor quality of electricity supply.Currently EDM has about forty five thousand clients in Nacala. 120 of these are industries.

22/11/2011 Efforts by the Federal Government to recover the over N100 billion owed by various distribution companies to the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) by electricity consumers across the country may yield little or no result as some of the non-paying companies were said to have closed shop, while others had relocated from Nigeria.


22/11/2011 ZESA Holdings has cancelled the tender for the supply of pre-paid meters after the winning bidder said he was prepared to lend than sell the facility to the power utility.

21/11/2011 About 120,000 people living in North, North West and South regions of Cameroon are expected to come out of darkness by 2012. The project is the result of the FCFA 5.2 billion-grant from the Islamic Development Bank. The project according to the Minister of Energy and Water Resources, Michael Ngako Tomdio, will install electricity in the said localities and connect to the AES-SONEL electricity grid.

08/06/2010 The retail price of fuel will increase effective, 9th June 2010, according to a press release from the Ministry of Finance of Gambia. Gas oil (AGO) will increase from D32 to D33, Petrol (PMS) from D33 to D38, but the price of kerosene remains unchanged at D26. All oil companies, dealers and retailers according to the release are advised to comply.
